Top Racing Games for Car Lovers

by Vanessa Diem

There are hundreds of racing games for players of all kinds to enjoy. Games like Mario Kart might appeal to kids, but you might want something a little more geared towards adults.

We mainly cover video games here, but we discuss some racing-related games for gamblers. We don't discuss it here, but we have some decent information on kaparós sorsjegy (scratch cards) if you want to know more about that.

Our guest author today is Péter Deli. If you'd like to, you can find out more about him and his work here.

Video Games

Let's talk about some of the best racing games of all time. Of course, everyone has different opinions about the best games, but this is our list.

Mario Kart

With more than 152 million copies sold worldwide, Mario Kart is one of the best-selling racing game franchises of all time, so it deserves a place on this list. It isn't targeted toward people who love cars, but if you are a car person, you'll love it.

Mario Kart 8 for the Switch sold more than 37 million copies, making it the most popular racing game. It doesn't have realistic graphics, characters or cars, so it's an enigma in the world of car games. Compared to other video game franchises, Mario Kart is pretty old - it turns 30 in 2023.

Hit cubes to get power ups like first-place bombs, speed boosts or immunity. The game's goal isn't just to win each race; it's to get three stars for each cup. You can also alter the difficulty of the races so that you can play to your ability.

Need for Speed

Another top-rated franchise, Need for Speed, gives players high-speed cop chases, customizable supercars and a massive roster of mass-market vehicles. With more than 150 million units sold over 27 years, it isn't far behind Mario Kart in terms of sales or age.

Most Wanted is the top-selling Need for Speed title, selling 16 million copies worldwide. It was the first in the series to have expensive supercars, customizability, chase sequences and regular cars.

Next are Underground and Underground 2, selling 15 million and seven million respectively. They paved the way for Most Wanted to become the most popular game in the series.

Need for Speed: Heat and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered are the newest entries in the series, and they're both available on PC. You can also get Heat on PS4 and Xbox One.

Burnout

Although Burnout isn't one of the top-selling racing games, it is still one of the best racing series. Burnout Paradise and Takedown are some of the more popular games in the series.

IGN puts Burnout 3: Takedown as number one on its list of best racing games of all time, and sites like Cool Material think Paradise is one of the best for car lovers.

Both games have smooth visuals and incredible audio. Paradise features an open world instead of restricted tracks, with obstacles that affect how your car operates. Unfortunately, it doesn't include actual vehicles, but the names of the fictional cars mirror real-world companies.

Takedown is universally acclaimed and features brilliant arcade racing. It's still a top-notch racing experience, even though it came out more than 15 years ago in 2004. The controls are smooth, making for excellent racing.

Gran Turismo

It's hard to find a better racing game than Gran Turismo, making it one of the best racing games of all time. That's because the creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, made it for hardcore car fans. Gran Turismo is one of the biggest reasons that car games are what they are today.

Gran Turismo sold more than 85 million copies of various titles since its initial release in 1997. The original game was the best-selling game of any kind on the original PlayStation. It's the blueprint for racing video games, including modern-day ones.

It's challenging to pinpoint the exact feature that makes Gran Turismo what it is. Not only is it one of the most influential racing games, but it also has an incredibly robust online racing environment, outclassing almost every single game.

The visuals of Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec are spectacular and realistic, and the rest of the games in the series that came out afterwards get better and better. It was one of the first racing titles to embrace the concept of simulation and realism entirely.

Gambling

What about racing games for gamblers?

Laws in Hungary

In Hungary, the government regulates online gambling through the Gambling Supervisory Board. Gambling activities are a state monopoly, so companies need a local presence to run gambling activity.

The Gambling Supervisory Board restricts which companies can advertise and how. For example, advertisers can only advertise if they have a license or concession for gambling operations, and they can't advertise to people who aren't old enough to gamble.

Racing Games for Gamblers

There are many racing games for gamblers, too. They're a little bit difficult to find, but you can find race car slots and some excellent racing games.

Two excellent race car slots that you can play are Green Light and Highway Kings. They both have rich atmospheres that emphasize the thrill of racing. Green Light has five reels and 20 paylines, and Highway Kings has five reels and nine paylines.

Conclusion

There are hundreds of video games and online casino games that you can play. From simple games like Mario Kart to hardcore games like Burnout, there's something for every car lover to enjoy. You can even play racing-themed slot games.
